[Desktop] Why DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable Cannot Be Used

Applicable Models:

ASUS V500 Mini Tower (V500MV), ASUS V500 SFF (V500SV), V501MV, V501SV

ASUS ExpertCenter P500 Mini Tower (P500MV), ASUS ExpertCenter P500 SFF (P500SV)

ASUS TUF Gaming T500 (T500MV), T501MV, T701MF

If your desktop computer is one of the above models, please note that these models only support standard DisplayPort (DP) signals and cannot output HDMI signals through a passive adapter cable.

A passive adapter cable only changes the connector shape and does not perform signal conversion, so it cannot convert a DisplayPort signal to HDMI.

If you need to output video to a monitor that only has an HDMI port, please use one of the following signal conversion methods:

  • Active DisplayPort to HDMI converter
  • Active DisplayPort to HDMI cable with built-in signal conversion chip

These devices have a built-in signal conversion chip that can effectively convert DisplayPort signals to HDMI, ensuring proper video display.

Note: If you have already used a cable or adapter with signal conversion but still encounter display issues, please refer to this article: Troubleshooting - External Monitor Connection Issues.
